VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Saturday, September 6 is the day of the Valley City monthly bluegrass jam sessions being held at the Vault Coffee Shop, 223 Central Avenue North. Normally on the 2nd Saturday, these are moved a week early this month to avoid conflict with the Red River Roots Festival happening on September 6 at Crooked Lane Farm.
The 11:00 am – noon session is a Beginner Bluegrass Jam, featuring easy music and slow paced playing and singing. Most numbers are in the bluegrass-friendly key of G and most use the G and D or D7 chords. Instruments included are six-string guitar, fiddle, mandolin, 5-string banjo, Dobro guitar, upright bass, and ukulele. We have Instruments on hand to try out. No cost!
The afternoon session runs from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and is a regular open acoustic bluegrass jam for musicians with their basic playing skills in place. Instruments included are six-string guitar, fiddle, mandolin, 5-string banjo, Dobro guitar, and upright bass. There is no charge to participate and listeners are welcome.
Both events are sponsored by the Bluegrass Association of North Dakota and the Vault Coffee Shop and Arts Center. For more information call John Andrus at 701-721-8296.
