JAMESTOWN – Grand Forks Central may be for real.  For at least one night, Jamestown was hurting.

Central ran up 228 rushing yards and 435 yards overall Friday in a 39-7 rout of the Blue Jays at Rollie Greeno Field at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium.  Also, Jamestown lost the services of starting quarterback Brady Nenow, who left with a leg injury in the second quarter.

Nenow was sacked by Knights’ lineman Eli Fischer and had to be helped off the field.  He later had to use crutches.

Jamestown (1-1) scored first on an eight-yard touchdown run by Liam Frey with 7:25 remaining in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.

Anton Perales answered for Central (2-0) with a seven-yard scoring run 3:02 later, but the Knights trailed 7-6 after the extra point was partially blocked.

Perales scored again from two yards out 2:10 into the second quarter, followed by the play which turned out to help carry the game in Central’s favor.  Quarterback Karson Schmidt, who entered the game for Jamestown after Nenow’s injury, was intercepted when Central’s Zade Martin jumped a route and scored on an 89-yard return with 5:25 left in the half.  Central led 19-7 at halftime.

A 93-yard scoring drive in the third quarter ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Naz Fisher and a 25-7 Central lead.

In the fourth quarter, quarterback Brody Leddige hit Trey Clauson with a 57-yard scoring pass and Carson Kotrba closed the scoring with 1:06 left on a 33-yard touchdown run.

Liam Frey rushed for 102 yards for Jamestown.  Schmidt was eight-of-17 with 83 yards passing.  Brady Hemminger led in tackles with seven.

Jamestown will host Central Cass on Friday, September 12.
