HARVEY (NewsDakota)- Carrington and Harvey/Wells County have a rivalry that can be best described by the word nail-biting, as the last two meetings coming into their region two game on Friday night had been decided on the last play of the game.

Make that three, as Carter Laber knocked through a 30-yard field goal as time expired and the Hornets scraped by with a 30-27 win over the Cards on Friday night.

The first half was like many games, as Harvey/Wells County (2-2, 1-1) scored on a 94-yard drive highlighted by two passes of over thirty yards for an early 7-0 lead.  But the Cards (1-3, 0-2) responded with Max Whitman finding Gabe Clifton on second and twenty-one for a 57-yard touchdown pass and it was 7-6 at halftime.

The second half, however, was wild.  Carrington opened the half with a 14-play, 62-yard, 7 minute 52 second touchdown drive that ended with Whitman finding McKade Zink for an eighteen yard touchdown pass on fourth down for a 14-7 lead after Peyton Harrington ran the two point conversion in.  After the Hornets tied the game, Carrington went to the bag of tricks as Parker Bickett completed a reverse pass for a 41-yard touchdown to Whitman and it was 21-14 after three.

The Hornets then scored on a 97-yard drive, again highlighted by the passing of Laber, who threw for 312 yards and three scores, to tie the game at 21.  But not for long, as Zink took the ensuing kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown and it was 27-21 Carrington.  But Harvey/Wells County scored again as Laber found Jaxon Fiest for a game-tying fifteen yard touchdown pass with 4:00 left.

With 1:20 left, Whitman was sacked at his own 10 and the Hornets fell on a fumble.  From there, they worked the clock and Laber delivered the game-winner as time expired, as the Cards lost their second consecutive game on the final play.

Carrington will next visit Park River Area on Friday with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 5:00pm.
