
VALLEY CITY (NewsDakota)- Carrington volleyball played a classic, five-set match on Tuesday night in defeat, and Saturday was the first test of the teams bounce-back ability in the Kadyn Mehring era.
And the Cardinals passed with flying colors.
Sophomore Aniston Hoornaert had a massive double-double of 28 assists and 16 digs and Carrington defeated Valley City 2-1 (25-20, 18-25, 15-11) to win the Valley City Optimists Tournament at the Hi-Liner Activity Center on Saturday. It was the fifth win of the day for the Cards (7-1), who had swept every other match on the day. The results are as follows:
POOL B: Carrington def. Oakes 2-0 (25-12, 25-16)
Harper Kollman had eight kills and Maara Kutz added seven as Carrington defeated their Class B opponent.
POOL B: Carrington def. Medina/Pingree-Buchanan 2-0 (25-13, 25-17)
Hoornaert had 22 assists and Marah Johnson had eight kills in the first of two meetings this season with the Thunder.
QUARTERFINAL: Carrington def. Grafton 2-0 (25-15, 25-22)
Hoornaert had 21 more assists and Kollman eight kills as Carrington got the better of their Region 2 opponent, who they will face on Thursday night on the road.
SEMIFINAL: Carrington def. Langdon 2-0 (25-20, 26-24)
Hoornaert racked up 22 more assists and Johnson collected nine kills against the second-ranked team in Class B.
