PARK RIVER (NewsDakota)- “They apparently didn’t want to go home just yet”.
Those were the words of Carrington head coach Kadyn Mehring after her team saw a two set lead erased before winning a five-setter (25-16, 25-17, 21-25, 23-25, 15-7) over the Park River-FL Aggies on the road on Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to six.
The first set began back-and-forth before Marah Johnson went on a 9-0 run on serve for Carrington (8-1) led to the Cardinals pulling away. In the second set, it was rinse and repeat, as Johnson again had a 7-0 run on serve that led to Carrington taking a two sets to none lead.
But then, junior Lauren Bell got going, and in an almighty way, as the middle hitter erupted for 24 of her game-high 32 kills in the next two sets as the Aggies (8-8) charged back to force a decisive set. However, the Cards settled down and never trailed in the fifth set one week after dropping a five-set match on the road.
Carrington returns to Region 2A play on Thursday night, on the road at the Grafton Spoilers, who on Tuesday swept aside #1 Thompson in Thompson. Coverage on KDAK The Cardinal begins at approximately 6:45pm.
