HORACE – For Kindred, there was consistency.  For Jamestown, there was more frustration.

Gabe Whipple passed for three touchdowns and Kindred converted five turnovers into scores Friday in a 49-6 win over Jamestown at Essentia Health Hawk Stadium.

The Blue Jays (1-3) committed the first of those turnovers on their first series when Karson Schmidt was intercepted by Brooks Bakko.  Kindred (4-0) then drove 60 yards in 11 plays, ending with a two-yard touchdown run by Clayton Althoff and Kindred led 7-0 almost seven minutes into the game.

After a Jamestown punt, Whipple hit Bakko with a 90-yard touchdown pass and a 13-0 Vikings lead with 1:31 left in the first quarter.

A Kindred turnover led to the Jays’ only points.  Brady Anderson forced a fumble by Whipple and Mason Gibson recovered at the Vikings’ 40.  Liam Frey scored on the ninth play of the drive with 7:12 left in the first half and Jamestown was within 13-6.

Jamestown forced a Kindred punt, but then Schmidt threw an interception that was returned 48 yards by Tanon Johnson for a touchdown and a 20-6 Vikings lead with 6:37 left in the first half.

The Blue Jays had a bad put snap at the end of their next possession and Kindred was at the Jamestown 26.  Whipple threw a touchdown pass to Luke Starcevic on the next play and the Kindred lead was 27-6 with 3:10 to go in the half.

With 1:01 left in the half, Schmidt was intercepted by Lincoln Swenson, who returned to the Blue Jays’ 17.  Sawyer Hesse scored two plays later from one yard out and Kindred led 34-6 at halftime.

Whipple threw a 17-yard scoring pass on the last play of the third quarter to Bakko and Kindred had a 41-6 lead.

The final points for Kindred came on a Jackson Schlieman six-yard touchdown pass to Fisher Johnson with 5:13 remaining and Schlieman running in a tw0-point conversion.

Whipple passed for 160 yards and rushed for 81.

For Jamestown, Frey rushed for 73 yards.  Schmidt was 13-of-24 for 128 yards.
