WINONA, MN – Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Volleyball now has a set win, but not yet a match win, in their new conference.

Winona State defeated Jamestown Saturday in four sets, 16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18 at McCown Gymnasium.

Kenna Kornely led Winona State (7-3, 2-0 NSIC) with 19 kills.  She also had 13 digs.  Abby Ongna had 14 kills.

Ava Mueller led the Jimmies (5-4, 0-2) with 13 kills.  Corbyn Menz had 12 kills, 16 digs and two aces.  Charlotte Lempka had eight kills and two blocks.

Jamestown took the first set, helped by 14 kills and by hitting .250.  Lily Bertsch, Mueller and Lempka had kills as the Jimmies had a 4-1 run for a 14-9 lead.  Jamestown led 20-13 after an ace by Menz and ended the set with a kill by Lempka and two by Mueller.

Set two was even at 17-17 before Winona State scored six straight, aided by an ace and kill by Gianna Volrath.  UJ was within 24-21 before Jayda Berg killed to end the set.

Jamestown couldn’t recover from falling behind 13-1 in the third set, though they did cut the Warriors’ lead to three twice.

UJ led 17-16 in the fourth set before Winona State scored nine of the match’s last 10 points.  Kornely and Berg had two kills each.

The Jimmies will try again for their first NSIC win when they play Northern State Tuesday in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  Coverage will begin at 5:45 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
