ABERDEEN, SD – At least for now, the road odyssey is over Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Volleyball.

Playing their 10th straight match away from home to begin the season, the Jimmies lost in three sets Tuesday to Northern State 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 at Wachs Arena in the schools’ first women’s volleyball match since 2010.

Linnea Nesheim led the Wolves (9-2, 1-2 NSIC) with 16 kills and two aces.  Abby Brooks had seven kills and four blocks.  Katelyn Schroeder also had four blocks.  Ava Nilsson, Division II’s leader in assists per set, had 36 set assists.  Abby Schauer had 20 digs and two aces.

Addison Brooke had seven kills for Jamestown (5-5, 0-3).  Greta Wise added six kills and three blocks.  Corbyn Menz served three aces.  Ava Bertsch had 12 assists and Lily Bertsch scored 11.  Momo Minamiya led the Jimmies in digs with 14.

Northern State led in kills 41-27 and outhit Jamestown .229 to .075.  NSU also had nine aces.

Jamestown started well, taking a 7-3 lead early in the first set in a run that included kills by Addison Ertz and Brooke and an ace by Ava Mueller.  After a 13-13 tie, NSU scored six of the next nine with two kills each by Brooks and Schroeder.  Ava Bertsch aced to bring UJ within 22-21, then a service error and two aces by Sara Moberg clinched the set for Northern State.

In the second set, the Jimmies struggled, managing only four kills and hitting -.122.  NSU had 13 kills, including six by Nesheim.

To break a 6-6 tie in the third set, Northern State had a 5-1 run with kills by Nesheim and Natalia Szybinska, an ace by Nesheim and kills by Riley Batta and Szybinska.  Brooke killed for a 15-14 UJ lead later, and still later, Brooke and Ertz scored kills for a 22-20 Jamestown lead.  Two Jimmie errors led to a 22-22 tie before a Brooke kill.  But NSU’s Brooks killed for 23-23, an attack error gave the Wolves match point and Nesheim killed to wrap up the match.

At last, the Jimmies will play their home opener Friday against St. Cloud State at Harold Newman Arena at 6:00 PM.
