Gwinner, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes have had a rough couple of weeks with injuries hampering their roster. In Gwinner, however, they were able to find their stride with their patchwork squad getting a 28-6 victory and entering a tie for the top spot in Region 1 with 3 other teams.

Sargent County would get the ball first but Oakes would force them into a quick 3 and out. The Tornadoes would put together a long drive with Andrew Rosendahl and Matthias Dahlstrom getting the lionshare of the touches as they’d march slowly and methodically down the field to have it capped off with a Beau Thorpe qb sneak to make it 7-0 with 4:15 left in the quarter. A quick 3 and out again would once again get Oakes the ball. This time they’d march down quickly using Matvei Dimitrov and Rosendahl. They would also go to Brody Moore and end the quarter with finding David Bakke at the 1 yard line.

The 2nd quarter would start with a quick score as this time Dimitrov would go up the middle to make it 14-0 with 11:53 left in the half. Sargent County then would find their footing as they would begin pushing the ball to the edges using a very fast Eli Olson to find space outside the numbers. Jace Fyre would also start airing it out finding Harry Neustal and Tristan Peterson to get down to the red zone. Fyre would then look to the endzone to try to find Peterson again this time Bakke would have the better positioning to get the interception in the endzone giving Oakes the ball back with 6:38 left. They would march down the field but would turn the ball over on downs to essentially end the half making 14-0 going to the lcoker rooms.

The 2nd half would start with Oakes getting the ball and this time quickly marching down the field. They would score on an odd play as the snap would be fumbled at the 10 yard line and somehow bounce out to Rosendahl who would scoop it up and run to the left side straight into the endzone to make it 21-0 with 9:42 left. Oakes would force Sargent County to punt the ball away. Oakes would slowly march down the field then Matthias Dahlstrom would spring for big yardage to get all the way down inside the 5. They would take 2 more plays to get into the endzone with Dahlstrom to make it 28-0 with 5 seconds left in the quarter. Peterson would return the kick return all the way back to the Oakes 45 to end the quarter.

The Bulldogs would once again use Olson to pick up big yards and then Jyre would air one out to Peterson in the endzone to make it 28-6 with 10:45 left in the game. After an Oakes punt and a Bulldog turnover on downs. Oakes would march down the field to close to the redzone with around 2 minutes left. They would try for a 38 yard field goal with Zade Heier who would push it barely to the right but a roughing the kicker penalty would let Oakes keep the ball and kneel it down to end the game and get the 28-6 win.

Matthias Dahlstrom got the Bank North Player of the Game.

Oakes is now 3-1 in the region with 3 games left against Northern Cass, Valley City, and EEK. They are also in a 4 way tie for 1st in the Region with Northern Cass, Lisbon, and EEK.

Next up for the Tornadoes is Northern Cass on October 3rd at 7:00 in Oakes. You can catch all of the action on KDDR The Tornado with coverage starting at 6:00 pm with the Full 9 Yards with Ricky and BJ.
