
JAMESTOWN – A first-set win must have encouraged a Jamestown Jimmie Women’s Volleyball team that no doubt needed encouragement. But Minnesota State rallied and UJ still searches for a first NSIC win.
Minnesota State topped the Jimmies Saturday 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-12 at Harold Newman Arena.
Mary Satori had 14 kills, two aces and 13 digs for Minnesota State (12-1, 4-1 NSIC). Avery Klein scored 12 kills, three aces, three blocks and 12 digs.
Corbyn Menz had 11 kills and two aces for the Jimmies (5-7, 0-5). Ava Mueller had seven kills and an ace. Ava Bertsch (18) and Lily Bertsch (17) combined for 35 set assists. Momoka Minamiya had 16 digs.
Minnesota State led in kills 56-39, in aces 9-3 and in blocks 7-2.
With a 17-15 lead in the first set, the Jimmies reeled off five straight points, including two kills & an ace by Menz and a kill by Addison Ertz. Down 23-16, MSU scored five straight, then committed to attack errors to give UJ the first set.
The Mavericks scored four straight for a 7-3 lead in the second set and were up 19-15 before scoring five of the last six points, which included two Avery Klein kills.
Jamestown led 7-5 in the third before a 6-1 run. Another 7-1 run later salted the set away.
Minnesota State dominated the fourth set, jumping out to an 8-0 lead and an 11-3 lead. There, the Mavericks scored nine straight points.
Jamestown will next play at MSU Moorhead on Friday.
