BISMARCK – In the words of head coach Sara Hegerle, “They’d had enough of losing.”

With a determined comeback, Jamestown Blue Jays volleyball ended their three-match losing streak Thursday with a four-set win over St. Mary’s, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-16.

Jamestown (9-7, 6-4 WDA) was led by another big night from junior hitter Lucy Falk, who scored 24 kills, 21 digs and two aces.  Claire Marker led an excellent Blue Jay block match with five and a half.  Mari Anderson also had five blocks.  Haley Attleson had three and a half blocks.  Hannah Attleson made 25 set assists and Jetta Peterson made 34 digs.

In the first set, the Blue Jays, who struggled through much of a five-set home loss Tuesday to Mandan, struggled again at the finish of a set.  After leading 22-20, Jamestown allowed St. Mary’s (2-14, 1-9) the last five points of the set, including a clinching kill by Reese Matter.

St. Mary’s built a 15-11 lead in the second set before Jamestown stormed back with an 11-5 flurry that included three kills by Anderson.  The Saints rallied for 22-22 before Falk had kills for the Blue Jays’ last three points.

Jamestown trailed again in set three 11-8, but the Blue Jays then regained the lead and took control of the match.  An 11-1 run, featuring three kills by Claire Iverson and four by Falk, had Jamestown up 19-12.  St. Mary’s was no closer than six points in the rest of the set.

Set four wasn’t in doubt for long as the Blue Jays led 8-1 and 16-7.

Completing a three-match week, Jamestown will host Williston Saturday at 3:00 PM at Jerry Meyer Arena.
