CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- The Carrington Cardinals had the perfect opening drive that ended in an opening touchdown on Friday night. But then the number one team in the state took full control.
Jax Johnson accounted for 243 yards and three touchdowns offensively and had a pick-six on defense as Langdon Area/Munich (7-0, 5-0) defeated Carrington 33-7 on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.
Carrington (2-5, 1-4) took the opening drive and on third down, Max Whitman hit Peyton Harrington for a 29-yard reception, which ended in a horse collar tackle, and three plays later, Harrington raced in from 11 yards for a 7-0 lead.
But Langdon responded with Johnson breaking off a 51-yard run on the first play and plowing in from six yards three plays later to level the score and then on the next possession, he went in from a yard out for a 13-7 lead. Johnson added an 8-yard pass to Maddux Stremick and it was 20-7 at the half.
Sam Davis went in from eleven yards to make it 26-7 in the third before Johnson picked off Whitman and returned it for a touchdown in the fourth to set the final score.
The Cardinals are next in action Friday night at Rugby with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6pm. Carrington must win to have a shot at the postseason.
