CROOKSTON, MN – After six tough matches, Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Volleyball at last has a win at its new level.
Addison Ertz and Ava Mueller each had 11 kills Saturday as Jamestown swept Minnesota Crookston 25-23, 25-23, 25-19 for the Jimmies’ first win in the NSIC.
Mueller also had one solo block and a block assist for UJ (6-8, 1-6 NSIC). Addison Brooke had nine kills (.444), two solo blocks and a block assist. Ava Bertsch had 20 set assists. Momo Minamiya had 20 digs.
Ertz killed for a 10-7 Jimmie lead in the first set. After Minnesota Crookston (6-9, 0-7) led 14-13, Brooke killed for an 18-15 Jamestown advantage. A service error by the Golden Eagles ended the first set.
Jamestown came back from 10-5 down in the second set on one kill by Brooke, two by Mueller and one by Bertsch for 21-21. Brooke scored a solo block for 22-22. Caroline Puetz gave the Jimmies a 24-23 lead before a Crookston attack error wrapped up set two for the visitors.
Solo blocks by Ertz and Puetz led Jamestown to a 6-1 third set lead. Minamiya aced for a 13-7 lead. Mueller served an ace for a 19-13 lead and Mueller finished the match with a kill for the historic win.
Jamestown will host Bemidji State on Friday at 6:00 PM at Harold Newman Arena.
