JAMESTOWN – A big home win has kept the hope of a state tournament appearance alive for Jamestown Blue Jays Boys Soccer.

Jared Sagaser scored twice and Miles Anderson notched a goal and two assists Tuesday as Jamestown defeated Mandan-St. Mary’s 4-1 at Rotary Field.

Anderson broke open a scoreless match by scoring in the 35th minute for the Blue Jays (6-8-2, 6-8-1 WDA), set up by Grady Eckart.

Eckart scored an unassisted goal in the 46th minute and Jamestown led 2-0.

Sagaser, both times assisted by Anderson, locked up the match with goals in the 54th and 61st minutes.

Andrew Gardner scored in the 77th minute for Mandan-St. Mary’s (3-7-5, 3-7-5) to avoid the shutout.

Ethan Harty stopped eight shots in the Jamestown goal.

With one match remaining, Jamestown has 19 points, three behind Minot North for the fourth and last state tournament berth from the WDA.  That last regular season match for the Blue Jays will be against the Sentinels on Saturday at 2:00 PM at Rotary Field.

If Jamestown wins, that would tie the Blue Jays with Minot North, but Jamestown would have the tiebreaker and be in the state tournament for the third straight season.  A win by Minot North or a draw would give the Sentinels their first state appearance.

Minot North defeated Jamestown 2-1 in the teams’ first meeting on August 29 at Sentinel Stadium.
