
Tower City, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes managed to collect a 5 set victory against the Maple River Raiders avoiding getting reverse swept against their District opponent.
The match started with a bit of back and forth between the two teams with 5 ties and 3 lead changes early on in set 1. The final tie would be 11-11. Oakes would then take a 16-11 lead. They would manage to hold onto the lead the rest of the set. The Raiders would get close at 20-19 but Oakes would go on a 5 point run to win the set 25-19.
The 2nd set was a lot tighter with 8 ties and 4 lead changes throughout the set. The Tornadoes and Raiders would trade the lead back and forth through the middle portion of the set before Oakes took the lead for good at 19-18 and 20-19. Oakes would go onto take the 2nd set by a score of 25-22.
The 3rd set was a little back and forth early on till 6-6. Maple River then would go on to take a 10-6 lead. The Tornadoes would battle back till they tied it at 14-14. The Raiders would then go on a 11-1 run to take the set 25-15 avoiding the sweep.
The Tornadoes would start the 4th set taking a 6-1 lead early on. The Raiders would not be denied and tie it at 9-9 and take the lead at 10-9. They would continue to build the lead up going on a 15-9 run to end the set and force a 5th set with a 25-28 win.
Set 5 was Tornado dominance as they quickly built a 9-1 lead. The Raiders tried to battle back getting it back to 9-6. But Oakes would end up taking the set and the match 15-9 to avoid being reverse swept.
