GRAND FORKS – Twice at state tennis, Luke LeFevre and Braxton Burkett rallied for wins.  On Saturday, the rally came against them.

Jamestown Blue Jays LeFevre and Burkett fell in the championship match Saturday of the NDHSAA Boys Tennis individual doubles tournament to Jason Ling and Ryan Spicer of Grand Forks Central 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 at Grand Forks Choice Health & Fitness.

The win by Ling/Spicer gave Central its third set of individual doubles state champions in the last six years.

Earlier on Saturday, LeFevre and Burkett, who came from a set down to win a quarterfinal match on Friday, did so again in their semifinal match.  They posted a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Arnav Panwalkar and Drew Burris of Fargo North.

LeFevre and Burkett were bidding to become the Blue Jays’ first individual boys doubles state champions since James Kale and Brian Heintz in 1985.
