MINOT – The rivalry between the Jamestown Jimmies and Minot State in ACHA D1 Men’s Hockey is very strong, and a great game Saturday added to it.  The Jimmies thought it was especially great.

Brad Fortin scored the 10th game-winning goal of his career in overtime as the sixth-ranked Jimmies defeated the third-ranked Beavers 4-3 at Maysa Arena, a night after Minot State had won in Jamestown.

Fortin scored his third goal of the season at 3:18 with assists from Sully Ross and Jordan Baranesky for the Jimmies (6-1-1-0).

Minot State (4-0-1-0) had trailed 3-1 before scoring two power play goals in the third period.  Christian Kadolph scored one at 11:37 and Jay Buchholz had the equalizer at 17:06.

Jimmies’ goalie Brandon Weare made 28 saves as Minot State had a 31-25 shot advantage.  The Beavers went 2-for-3 on the power play while UJ never had one.

Carter Johnson provided the Jimmies with a 2-0 lead through two periods.  He scored his second goal of the season, assisted by Griffin Bourassa, at 5:21 of the first period and scored his third unassisted at 14:11 of the second period.

Colby Joseph brought Minot State back within a goal at 7:31 of the third period, but Tanner Freed popped in his first goal of the season at 9:04, set up by Matthew McIntyre and Tyler Lindal, for a 3-1 Jamestown lead.

Jamestown will play Friday and Saturday against McKendree University in O’Fallon, Illinois.
