
VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) After a difficult road trip to Dakota State and Bellevue, the road in Montana was much sweeter for Viking volleyball.
Valley City State saw consistent production from their middles and locked down opposing offenses twice in sweeps of Montana Tevh Friday (25-22, 25-23, 25-21) and Montana Western (25-20, 25-9, 25-16) Saturday.
The weekend daw a reversal of matches in Valley City to start the season, when the Vikings were beaten by both opponents 3-1.
Friday night daw the Vikings prevail against an Orediggers team receiving votes in the national poll despite being outhit in the matchup. Danielle Hagler led the Vikings with 12 kills and seven blocks. Valley City State recorded 12 blocks, a major tipping point in the tight match.
Saturday was one of the best, if not the best, performance of the Vikings season, holding Western to just .008 hitting, while outpointing the Bulldogs 59-31.
Hagler again led the defensive effort with six blocks, and Emma Lucas recorded a strong blocking effort, adding six blocks. Macy Fridgen had nine kills to lead the Viking offense.
The Vikings face third-ranked Providence University Friday night at Graichen Gymnasium.
