WAHPETON, N.D. — It took a little time for the Valley City Hi-Liners to find their groove, but once they did, they rolled past Wahpeton in straight sets (25-20, 25-11, 25-13) to improve to 15-6 overall and 8-1 in Region 1 play.
The Hi-Liners started slowly in the opening set, struggling to score off their own serve as Wahpeton’s defense and a few Valley City miscues helped the Huskies take an 18-17 lead. Following a timeout, Valley City responded with an 8-2 run to close out the set, highlighted by strong play from Katie Burchill at the net.
The final two sets were all Valley City. The Hi-Liners raced out to a 13-0 lead in the second frame behind the dominant play of Kadie Kocka and Skye Nielson and never looked back.
The night’s biggest storyline came from the return of senior outside hitter Dacota Potratz, who recorded her first kill and ace of the season in the second set and continued her strong performance into the third. Valley City carried that momentum through the final set, cruising to a 25-13 win to complete the sweep.
Next up for Valley City is a road trip to Northern Cass on Tuesday, Oct. 21, as the Hi-Liners look to take another step toward securing the Region 1 regular-season championship.
