Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds came into Oakes with an undefeated District 1 record looking to hold onto that and they managed to hold onto it by weathering a relentless Tornado squad who took them to 4 sets (25-20, 25-14, 21-25, 25-13).

The match started with the Warbird jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead followed by an 8-3 lead. The Tornadoes however came storming back as they took a 10-8 lead after a 7 point run with  Lexi Harris serving. The Warbirds would battle back and tie it at 10 before taking a 12-10 lead when Oakes came back and tied it at 12. After that however the Warbirds jumped out again and didn’t give up the lead eventually taking the set 25-20.

Set 2 was back in forth with 5 ties going all the way till 6-6. The Warbirds then went on a 9-4 run to make it 15-9. They would continue to build that lead all the way till they won it 25-14.

Set 3 was the tightest set of them all with 13 ties and 4 lead changes. Oakes would jump out to an early 3-0 lead. They would hold the lead till 9-9 when the Warbirds got out to an 11-9 lead. The Tornadoes would continue to be relentless and battle back and tie it at 11-11. They would trade points till Wyndmere-Lidgerwood took at 15-13 lead only to watch it disappear again with Oakes going to a 16-15 lead. They would continue to trade points and the lead till 21-21. Oakes would then go on a 4 point run to take the set 25-21.

Set 4 started with 2 quick ties before the Warbirds started to pull away going to a 10-5 lead before long and never looking back. They’d end up taking the set and the match with a 25-13 score.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Mallory Harris.

With the win Wyndmere-Lidgerwood and Hankinson will meet on Monday to play for the #1 seed in District 1. Oakes with the loss enters a 3 way tie for 4th place. To hold onto the #4 seed they’d need to beat Richland on Tuesday October 21st. If they were to lose and Maple River and Sargent County beat BCN and Tri-State respectively they’d fall to the 7th seed.
