HORACE, N.D. (VCSU) – The Valley City State University Shooting Team closed out its fall season with an impressive showing at the annual Bison Blast meet in Horace on October 11, claiming first place in the Skeet Shooting competition and tying for second place in Trap Shooting.
The Vikings delivered strong, consistent performances despite the weekend’s windy conditions as they faced teams from North Dakota State University, University of Jamestown, University of Mary, Bismarck State College, and Concordia-Moorhead.
In the Skeet Shooting event, Ty Awender led the Vikings with a standout score of 45/50, the highest individual skeet mark for VCSU. Kasey Odegaard (44/50) and Bodi Haglund (43/50) followed closely, while Jake Hennings (41) and Tyler Johnson (36) rounded out the scoring lineup. Their combined effort earned VCSU a team total of 209/250, finishing five points ahead of the nearest competitor to secure the top spot.
In the Trap event, Cali Steffan paced the Vikings with an outstanding 95/100, followed closely by Gretchen Deaver (94) and Kasey Odegaard (94). Jake Hennings (89) and Andy Nelson (88) completed the top five, helping VCSU tie for second place overall with a total score of 460/500 and giving VCSU another strong finish to close out the season.
“We ended on a great note with a lot to look forward to this spring,” said Kasey Odegaard, VCSU Trap Club President.
Several team members are set to compete at the USA College Clay Target League National Championship in Illinois later this month. It is the first time that VCSU Shooting Sports will compete at the National Championship.
