mammograms

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (CHI) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and CHI Mercy Health of Valley City is proud to support our community.

Today breast cancer accounts for approximately 30% of all new cancer cases in women. Regular mammograms are the key tool in this fight, allowing healthcare professionals to identify potential issues before they become more serious. Beyond screenings, understanding your personal risk factors and being aware of changes in your breasts are crucial steps in proactive health management.

A mammogram is a vital tool for:
● Early Breast Cancer Detection: Identifying potential signs of breast cancer in healthy women.
● Evaluating Abnormal Findings: Investigating unusual results from physical exams, watching for symptoms like lumps, nipple discharge, pain, skin dimpling, or nipple retraction.
● Monitoring Existing Conditions: Tracking changes in women with a history of abnormal mammograms.

The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms starting at age 40. Women with a family history of
breast cancer should discuss earlier screening with their doctor.

CHI Mercy Health Mammography Center, accredited by the American College of Radiology, offers advanced 3D
technology with the highest level of accuracy in diagnostic breast care right here in Valley City. 3D mammography is a superior imaging technique that detects cancers as small as 2 mm. It provides crystal-clear images for immediate review and detailed analysis of even the smallest suspicious areas. For breast cancers detected under 1 cm, the odds of survival are over 90%. This is why early detection is so vital!

Our newly renovated environment will put you at ease and offers a private waiting and changing room, warm robes, refreshments, without the need to go outside in the cold and climb into a truck. We are happy to work with our local clinics, Essentia and Sanford, and will communicate your imaging and reports to them so you can continue to receive care from your preferred provider.
