MANKATO, MN – There was one set that contained some drama for Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Volleyball, but again, a nationally-ranked team won out.
23rd-ranked Minnesota State swept Jamestown Friday 25-20, 28-26, 25-15 at the Taylor Center.
Jamestown (9-11, 4-9 NSIC) hit only .066 in the match, while Minnesota St. (17-4, 9-4) hit .175.
Emily Kern had 12 kills (.476) and seven block assists for the Mavericks. Mary Satori hit 10 kills, served an ace and had four block assists. Avery Klein also had 10 kills.
Addison Brooks led Jamestown with nine kills (.500). Corbyn Menz had seven kills and 11 digs.
Jamestown led 9-7 in the second set before Minnesota St. scored seven straight points, including two kills by Kern and an ace by Madisen Miller. The Jimmies never came close than three for the remainder of the set.
Caroline Puetz and Menz had consecutive kills to give the Jimmies a 23-22 lead in the second set. Minnesota St. answered with a Kern kill followed by an attack error for set point at 24-23. A Menz kill forced extra volleyball and a Maverick attack error gave Jamestown a set point at 25-24. Kern killed for 25-25. UJ had another set point from an attack error, but Minnesota State scored the last three points on a kill by Kern, an ace by Morgan Bejlla and a kill by Satori.
Minnesota State put the third set away relatively early with leads of 4-0, 10-3 and 17-9.
Jamestown will meet 11th-ranked St. Cloud State on Saturday in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
