Mavis Marie (Loibl) Loendorf, 88, of Valley City, ND, was reunited with the love of her life in heaven on October 20, 2025. She was born on December 17, 1936, and grew up in Fingal, ND. She was the only daughter of Olga (Christianson) and Steven Loibl and adored her two brothers, Eldy (Marlys) and Maynard (Rita).

Joe was the love of her life. Together they built a family and a cherished life on the farm. She was the matriarch the Loendorf family was built upon—strong, resilient, and full of heart. Mavis and Joe raised four loving daughters: Diana (Jeff VanRay), Pam, Patty (Kim Wiest), and Janelle (Rob Schaper). She delighted in visits from her girls, nine grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren, always ready with a pan of scotcharoos or whatever homemade goodies you were craving.

Mavis and Joe were married for 63 wonderful years. They were salt of the earth but had an adventurous side, traveling through Europe and snowmobiling in retirement. They spent more than 20 years enjoying the warmth of Arizona winters, where friends and family often joined them for bike rides, golf cart trips, or a friendly game of Pinochle. Together they built a lifetime of love, laughter, and lasting memories.

Mavis was small but mighty—always stylish, loyal, and generous. She spent eight decades feeding her family, farm workers, and friends. Her home was always full of warmth, with a stocked fridge, a pot of coffee ready, and good conversation at the table. Whether you were playing cards, swapping stories, or laughing late into the night, you knew you were home.

Her full table, candor, and laughter will be deeply missed. The love and connection she gave so freely leave an irreplaceable hole in our hearts. How grateful we are to have loved and been loved by her for so many years.

The celebration of Mavis’s life will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City, with visitation one hour prior and lunch to follow. Burial will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan at 3 p.m. The funeral service will be livestreamed and later archived on her tribute page at www.lerudmathias.com, where an online guestbook is also available.
