CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- An old rival visited Carrington on Monday night, but the Cardinals continued their scorching hot recent form.
Marah Johnson had fifteen of the Cardinals’ 49 kills as Carrington swept Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-14) for their 28th win of the season and capped off a home schedule that saw the team go undefeated in best-of-five matches.
It started immediately as Aniston Hoornaert began the match with back-to-back aces and Maara Kutz began her night with a massive kill and Carrington (28-4) scored the first six points of the set as they never led by less than six.
The Rebels (21-9) fought back hard in the second set, with Betsy Huber and Elli Lloyd rallying on offense, but they could not ever take a lead, thanks in part to Calleigh Hewitt’s hitting. The junior finished with eleven kills on the night as the Cards went up 2-0.
In the third set, Carrington ran away with it with four of their nine aces, including two from senior Lauren Hendrickson to wrap up the match and the sweep.
Carrington are back in action Thursday night at Devils Lake with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at around 6:45pm.
E-K-M are the 3-seed in the District 2B Tournament and will open against (6) Kidder County on Friday night at around 7:30pm. You can hear the entire 2B Tournament on Thunder Country 98.3
