VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Valley City welcomed North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak on Wednesday, October 22nd for a discussion on reliable energy and public power.
The “Energy Roundtable” discussion covered key issues such as transmission development, permitting reform, and meeting growing power demand quickly, reliably, and affordably. The discussion emphasized the importance of protecting the federal power program, supporting local utilities, and viewing energy policy as a key component of national security.
Congresswoman Fedorchak serves on the Energy and Commerce committee. Mayor Dave Carlsrud said with her expertise from serving as North Dakota Public Service Commissioner, hearing her overview of issues was invaluable. He said one noted need is to generate enough energy to supply large load industries as there is no excess energy on the market at this point. Valley City Department heads attended the roundtable and some asked questions and shared their concerns about future energy issues.
Representatives from Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) and the City of Hillsboro also participated in the conversation.
