DEVILS LAKE (NewsDakota)- It is turning into a historic first season under Kadyn Mehring for the Carrington volleyball program, and that continued on Thursday night.

The Cardinals swept Devils Lake (25-22, 25-17, 25-21) to pick up their 29th win of the season.  The program last won 30 matches in 2019, but that seems likely to change.

The match could not have started better for the Firebirds (15-14-1, 2-9) as they scored the first four points of the match, including three consecutive aces by Riley Remmick.  But the Cards (29-4, 10-0) responded and by the middle of the set they had the lead behind the hitting of Harper Kollman, who led a balanced effort with twelve kills.

The second set was much sharper for Carrington, as they never trailed behind a great service set, as the Cards had nine aces for the second consecutive match.  The third set was dominated by freshman Mya Neis, who had a career-high tying seven kills.

Carrington conclude the regular season on Monday at May Port-CG with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6:45pm.  The winner will be the 1-seed in the Region 2A Tournament and earn a bye to the semifinals.
