PORTLAND (NewsDakota)- An incredible regular season had its crowning moment on Monday night.
The Carrington Cardinals rallied from a set down to beat May-Port CG 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-18) to reach thirty wins for the first time since 2019 and clinch the top seed in next week’s Region 2A Tournament.
The Patriots (26-7-1, 8-4) got off to a roaring start as Paetyn Strand led them to a dominant first set with help from Kylie Kroeplin and Kiaza Carlson to take the early lead.
The second set see-sawed several times and was tied at 23 before the Cards (30-4, 12-0) got back-to-back kills from Junior Harper Kollman to end the set.
The third set began very close at 12-10 before Carrington blew the Patriots away by scoring thirteen of the last sixteen points of the set behind the serving of Kollman and the hitting of Junior Calleigh Hewitt, who had thirteen kills.
The fourth set was dominated by the Cards, who had 55 kills in the match, as Marah Johnson joined the two junior leaders in double-digits in kills with twelve.
Carrington advance to a Region 2A Semifinal on November 11 at 5:30pm against the winner of (5) Harvey/Wells County and (4) Thompson. Coverage on KDAK The Cardinal begins at around 5:15pm.
