VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson had this update concerning the New School Facility Project 2028.
He said since the referendum passed in June, our school teams have been designing and also prepping the site for the construction project. After this initial design phase, we will be transitioning into the bidding phase in February/March, followed by construction phase beginning around the end of the school year. Below, we’ve highlighted a few of our related projects in preparation for the new school.
New Practice Field
This fall the school district acquired the former lime pit land from the City of Valley City. We added new top soil, leveled the ground, and are adding a fence around the east and north perimeters. The new field will be used by many school activities and youth recreation by the end of next summer. A shout-out to Blake Stevens VCHS Class of 2020 (Bridge City Excavating) and Matt Maresh VCHS Class of 2003 (Bob’s Excavating) for their help with developing this ground for our kids in Valley City.
Jefferson/Hanna Field
We have two garages and a discus pad located east of Jefferson that will be moved prior to the beginning of construction on the new school. One of the garages will be moved south of the scoreboard at Hanna Field and the discus pad will be relocated to the new practice field. A shout-out to Sonny Anderson VCHS Class of 1996 (H.Anderson Concrete) for pouring the new concrete pad and Travis Gille (Gille’s Auto) for relocating our current discus pad. Sonny and his crew have been especially supportive of our school district over the past two years having also poured concrete for the playground at Jefferson Elementary School in the summer of 2024.
Johnson said we will be excited to share design plans and more updates with you in the next couple of months. This is an exciting time for our school district and community as we build a new school in Valley City.
