LYNCHBURG, VA – Tucker Shields scored twice in the third period Friday as Liberty held off a rally by Jamestown Jimmies ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey, winning 5-3 at LaHaye Ice Center and sweeping the two-game series.
Liberty led 2-1 after the first period. After a scoreless second period, Shields scored 2:18 into the third period for the Flames (13-3-0-0), followed by an Aidan Carney power play goal at 7:21. Liberty had a 4-1 lead.
Jamestown (10-6-1-0) came back, with Sully Ross scoring his second, assisted by Jacob Thomas, at 12:37. Brad Fortin scored his eighth of the season and second of the game with 2:11 left, set up by Trey Stephenson.
Shields restored the two-goal lead for Liberty by scoring again with 1:47 remaining.
Kal Essenmacher and Mason Smith scored for Liberty in the first period, with Fortin scoring for the Jimmies.
Jamestown will play the first of back-to-back games at Minot State on Friday, November 14.
