VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Valley City woman is facing a felony drug related charge stemming from a September 15th incident on school property.
Police Chief Nick Horner said an officer with the Valley City Police Department was conducting a routine walk-through at Valley City High School during a sporting event. During the event, an individual alerted the officer to a suspicious item located on the floor in the common area.
Upon inspection, the item was determined to be a controlled substance, specifically methamphetamine. Following a review of surveillance footage provided by Valley City High School, officers observed the controlled substance fall from the possession of a female who was leaving the event. The individual was identified as Lindsey Downs.
After the investigation Downs was charged with possession of a controlled substance on school property. This was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public or to students and staff at Valley City High School. The Valley City Police Department would like to thank school staff and community members for their cooperation and vigilance.
On October 30th Downs entered a not guilty plea, her next court appearance, a Felony Dispositional Conference for Downs is set for December 30th at 1pm.
In 2019, Downs was charged in Barnes County with Felony Endangerment of a Child or Vulnerable Adult as well as misdemeanor drug possession.
Downs has been banned from Valley City Public School events and property until further notice.
