JAMESTOWN – At last, Jamestown Jimmies women’s volleyball was able to win a set, but another nationally-ranked visitor spoiled the final 2025 home match.
16th-ranked Southwest Minnesota State dropped Jamestown 25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20 Saturday at Harold Newman Arena.
Leah Jones had 15 kills and served four aces for SMSU (19-6, 12-6 NSIC). Addison Brooke led Jamestown (9-16, 4-14) with 13 kills and four blocks. Gracie Adamson notched 11 kills.
After SMSU opened the first set with a 6-4 lead, three attack errors and an ace by Sophie Ketterling gave Jamestown an 8-6 lead. SMSU then scored the next eight points, including three kills by Jones and one by Natalie Pilney, and led 14-8. The Mustangs led by no less than six for the rest of the set.
In the second set, Jamestown broke its streak of losing 16 straight sets. The Jimmies were down twice by four points early in the set and trailed 22-21 before two kills by Ava Mueller and an attack error gave UJ a set point. A Pilney kill and a block tied the score, but Mueller had a kill for 25-24 and an SMSU attack error ended the set.
Set three was tied 7-7 before SMSU scored six of the next eight points with two kills and an ace by Jones, a kill by Pilney and a kill by Ashley Peltier. Later, Paige Steinmetz contributed a kill and ace to help the Mustangs to a 19-13 lead.
Pilney assisted on a block, had a kill and served an ace as SMSU led 6-2 in the fourth set. Jamestown evened the set at 9-9, then the Mustangs had kills from Pilney, Jones and Peltier in a 6-1 run for a 16-10 lead. Karli Arkell had two kills and Kennedy Drake served an ace and the visitors led 22-13.
The Jimmies’ last two matches of 2025 will be on the road, starting with Wayne State College Friday in Wayne, Nebraska.
