MANDAN – A first-set win for Dickinson gave the Mavericks hope of a postseason upset.  Then on came the Blue Jays.

Jamestown controlled the last three sets in a four-set win Thursday 26-28, 25-10, 25-17, 25-21 in the quarterfinal round of the AA West Region Volleyball tournament at Mandan High School’s Starion Bank Gymnasium.

Jamestown (20-11) saved three set points in the first set and Dickinson (11-20) saved one before the Mavericks prevailed.  Following that, aggressive attacking, serving and blocking led the Blue Jays.

Jamestown had 57 kills to Dickinson’s 37, 15 blocks to eight and 12 aces to three.  Lucy Falk had 20 kills, two blocks, 16 digs and four aces for the Blue Jays.  Claire Marker scored 14 kills and three blocks.  Amelia Newman had 11 kills and an ace.  Mari Anderson notched nine kills, six blocks and two aces.  Hannah Attleson served three aces and had 32 set assists.  Jetta Peterson had 21 digs.

Jenna Nelson led Dickinson with 26 kills.

The Blue Jays, seeking a fourth straight state tournament appearance, have the chance for it when they meet Minot in a semifinal on Friday evening in Mandan.  Coverage will begin at 6:45 PM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
