MANDAN – Two outstanding matches for Jamestown Blue Jays Volleyball earned them a state tournament berth.  But Saturday, then ran into the power in the state’s highest classification of volleyball.

Century won its 12th straight West Region volleyball championship, sweeping Jamestown in the tournament final 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 at Mandan High School’s Starion Bank Gymnasium.

Sylvia Taylor had 14 kills, a block and eight digs for the Patriots (31-2), who had lost to the Blue Jays at Jerry Meyer Arena on October 30.  Alexis Heinle scored 11 kills, one and a half blocks and an ace.  Abby Fosland also had 11 kills, along with a half-block, 16 assists, nine digs and an ace.

Lucy Falk led Jamestown (21-12) with 14 kills, a block, 15 digs and an ace.  Claire Marker had four kills and two blocks.

Jamestown led briefly in the first set and had a five-point lead early in the third set, but Century otherwise controlled the match.  The Blue Jays, who had over 50 kills in each of the first two matches of this tournament, were limited to 24 in this match.

Still, Jamestown is set for a fourth straight state tournament appearance.  The Blue Jays will play in the last AA quarterfinal on Thursday against Fargo Davies in the Exhibit Hall at the Bismarck Events Center.  Coverage will begin at 6:45 PM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
