BETHANY, OK – Anthony Walters decided a tight game with two go-ahead free throws with 9.8 seconds left Saturday and Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Basketball earned their first win in Division II, 68-66 over Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Sawyer Center in the GAC/NSIC Challenge.

Walters, who led Jamestown (1-1) with 13 points, converted the free throws after being fouled by Robbie Armbrester.  NWOSU (1-1) had a chance to force overtime, but the Rangers’ Cam’ron Brown threw a four-foot runner in the lane over the rim with 3.8 seconds to go and Owen Hektner grabbed the rebound to preserve the win for the Jimmies.

Walters hit a three-pointer and also had three rebounds, two assists and a steal.  Hektner had 11 points with two three-pointers and had two assists and two steals.  Carson Woodford also scored 11 with five rebounds.  Cole Glasgow and Ford Okehi scored eight each.

NWOSU led by as many as seven points on their way to a 33-31 halftime lead.  With 13:30 left, a Brown layup put the Rangers up by 10 at 49-39.  Hektner then hit two three-pointers for Jamestown in a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 51-49.

Down 57-51, the Jimmies used threes by Thomas Diew and Walters to tie, then took their first lead since the game’s first minute on a Woodward free throw with 5:41 left.

Glasgow scored in the paint with 2:19 left for a 62-61 Jimmie lead.  23 seconds later, Max Alexander hit a layup and free throw for NWOSU.  Woodford tipped in a missed three by Walters with 1:36 left to even the game again at 64-64.

Walters made a steal, then dunked with 1:20 left and Jamestown led 66-64.  Brown hit two free throws seven seconds later for the last Ranger points.

Jamestown shot 48 percent from the floor and 6-of-19 three-pointers.  UJ won despite 20 turnovers.

The Jimmies will play their home opener Tuesday against Bismarck State College at Harold Newman Arena, completing a doubleheader that will begin with the Jimmie women meeting BSC.  Coverage will begin Tuesday at 5:00 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
