In their home opener, the Jimmies (2-1) were given a good tussle by the Mystics (0-3), playing in their first season as an NAIA program. But consistent offensive rebounding and a big night by Anthony Walters secured the Jamestown win.

Walters recorded his first double-double as a Jimmie, scoring 25 points with 10 rebounds, his first game for UJ with double-figure rebounds. He hit six three-pointers and had an assist. Owen Hektner scored 17 with four three-pointers. He also had three rebounds, a block and two steals. Off the bench, Henry Meyer scored 10 on four-of-seven shooting. Cole Glasgow scored seven and had seven assists.

As the Jimmies had a 42-30 rebounding advantage, they pulled down 22 offensive rebounds.

Houston Davis had his second straight 30-plus point game for the Mystics, scoring 14 in the first 6:07 of the game on his way to 32 points on 11-of-15 shooting and 4-of-5 three-pointers. He also had nine rebounds and two assists. Avery Wesley scored 14 and Tristin Davis tallied 13.

Houston Davis’ big start carried Bismarck State to as much as a six-point lead in the first seven minutes and the Mystics led 35-28 on a William Ware three with 6:09 left in the first half. Jamestown then ended the half with a 15-2 run as Walters and Hektner hit threes and the Jimmies led 43-37 at halftime.

A Glasgow three 1:11 into the second half stretched the Jimmie lead to 11 points, but Bismarck State fought back again with a 13-3 run. However, the Mystics couldn’t take the advantage back. A Walters triple with 6:44 left completed a 10-3 run for the Jimmies, who led 74-65. Bismarck State was as close as six down with seven minutes left before threes by Walters, Davis Walker and Hektner, plus a Thomas Diew layup, put Jamestown up 82-70 with three minutes left.
