JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KFGO) – A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Jamestown man accused of stealing from a local company and threatening to kill two people.
Robert Cowperthwaite is charged with unauthorized use of personal identifying information, forgery or counterfeiting, two counts of terrorizing and criminal coercion.
Court records say Cowperthwaite used an account from Jerry’s Tree Services for personal use in an attempt to scam or defraud the business.
The terrorizing charges stem from threats Cowperthwaite allegedly sent to two people saying they “would die if IU don’t get that 4,225 dollar check in my mailbox today and cleared.”
Investigators say he also sent a photo of a gun shell casing and a message saying he was going to kill the victim if he didn’t pay or clear the check at the bank. “I’m bout to go find him and kill him,” court records state.
The criminal coercion charge was added as investigators say Cowperthwaite threatened to shoot a man if he did not pay him.
