VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Voters in the Valley City Public School District approved a $46 million referendum during a special election on June 10th.

Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson said since the referendum passed, our school teams have been working on floor plans that will be shared with the public to allow community input on the new construction project.

Johnson said during the school reconfiguration process, no staff cuts are anticipated. The plan is to retain all current staff members.

He also told the school board that a final agreement with Construction Engineers is pending.

Johnson said after this initial design phase, we will be transitioning into the bidding phase in February/March, followed by the construction phase tentatively set to begin around the end of the school year in the spring or summer of 2026.

The new 3 through 12 school will be built just east of Jefferson elementary school. The existing elementary school will remain in place and be connected to the new school.

Johnson gave this update concerning the new school facility project during a school board meeting on November 12th. A portion of Johnson’s presentation is below.
