BISMARCK (NewsDakota)- Coaches do not always like to using the word, but one thing is very clear at the moment.
The Valley City Hi-Liners volleyball team is peaking. And at the absolute perfect time.
Kadie Kocka smashed home twenty kills and the fourth-seeded Hi-Liners torched the fifth-seeded Thompson Tommies 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-22) in a Class A Quarterfinal at the Bismarck Civic Center on Thursday night.
The first set started back-and-forth all the way to 10-all, but from there, Valley City (21-9) never looked back, scoring fifteen of the final sixteen of the set to take it easily. And that momentum carried into the second set, where the Tommies (24-11) never climbed to closer than six points as Brynn Leuck served well and Kocka and Skye Nielsen dominated the net for a two-set lead.
The third set was much better for Valley City than their third set while up 2-0 on Saturday against Carrington, but Thompson rallied from and early deficit to climb within 16-15 at one point, but Layni Bakalar had a five-point run on serve to put the match on ice.
The Hi-Liners will face (1) South Prairie-Max in a Class A Semifinal on Friday with coverage on KOVC beginning at approximately 2:45pm.
