BISMARCK – It is the word a team never wants to hear about its play.

“Flat.”

That was how Head Coach Sara Hegerle described the Jamestown Blue Jays’ performance Friday in a sweep at the hands of Bismarck 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 in the consolation round of the NDHSAA AA Volleyball Tournament at the Bismarck Event Center’s Exhibit Hall.

Jamestown (21-14), who played well but was worn down eventually in a Thursday quarterfinal loss to Davies, started well in Friday’s match, leading by five points twice in the first set.  But a 13-3 run by Bismarck (23-13), which included three kills by Rosalyn Brunette, made the score 21-17 Demons.  Four kills by Claire Marker put the Blue Jays within 24-23, but a Jamestown attack error ended the set.

Bismarck blazed to a 13-7 lead in the second set on three more kills by Brunette, but Lucy Falk killed four times for Jamestown to come within 17-16.  Their 5-0 run was followed by a 5-0 Bismarck run and the Demons won the set behind five kills by Jordyn Rood.

In the third set, Mari Anderson delivered three blocks in a 6-0 run for a 10-6 Jamestown lead.  JHS later led 16-14 before Bismarck scored 11 of the last 15 points of the match.  Rood had two blocks and two kills in that run.  Brunette had three kills.

Rood and Brunelle each had 13 kills.  Rood also had two and a half blocks and 40 set assists for the Demons, who had 48 kills to Jamestown’s 32.

Marker led Jamestown with 10 kills and four and a half blocks.  Anderson and Hannah Attleson each had three and a half blocks.  Falk was limited to eight kills.

On Saturday, for the second straight year, Jamestown will play Horace for seventh place, this time at Bismarck High School’s Karlgaard Gym.  Coverage will begin Saturday at 9:45 AM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
