
JAMESTOWN – The top-ranked team in ACHA D1 Women’s Hockey had the upper hand, but just for a while.
Emma Durand scored 57 seconds into overtime Sunday to complete a stunning comeback for the 11th-ranked Jamestown Jimmies, who came back from two two-goal deficits to knock off number one Liberty 4-3 at Wilson Arena.
Durand’s unassisted goal came against Liberty goalie Alexandra Keith, who had just entered for the overtime period. This marked the first loss of the season for the Flames (16-0-1-0).
Down 3-1, Jamestown (5-9-0-1) begin its rally with a power play goal by Gabriella Schroder, her fourth of the season, assisted by Mikaela Nimetz and Durand, at 11:36 of the second period.
With only 4:19 left in regulation, the Jimmies’ Samantha Beaulac tied the game with her third goal, an unassisted marker.
Brielle Fussy and Tristan Craig scored for Liberty for a 2-0 lead through one period.
Rebekah Nickisch scored a shorthanded goal for Jamestown, set up by Maddison Andrew, at 7:18 of the second period. A power play goal for Allison Shaw just 24 seconds later had Liberty up 3-1.
Madelynne Sylvestre was sharp in goal for the Jimmies, making 30 saves. Liberty had a 33-28 shot advantage and was 1-for-2 on the power play. The Jimmies were 1-for-1.
UJ will play Minnesota on Minneapolis on December 5 and 6.
