
JAMESTOWN – Hayden Volk scored twice Saturday for Devils Lake, who built a three-goal lead before hanging on to a 5-4 win over Jamestown Blue Jays Boys Hockey at Wilson Arena.
Volk scored his second for the Firebirds (2-0-0-0) at 8:51 in the third period for a 5-2 Devils Lake lead.
Exactly three minutes later, Ayden Ness, assisted by Cole Bullinger, scored for Jamestown (1-1-0-0) and the Blue Jays were within 5-3.
Brady Anderson scored with 3:33 to play after being set up by Parker Roelfsema and Braxton Burkett and Jamestown was down only 5-4.
Devils Lake led 2-0 after 17 minutes on first period goals by Volk and Dylan Stromme. Their lead was 3-0 after Carson Hogness scored 1:16 into the third period.
Only 29 seconds later, John Belzer scored to put Jamestown on the board with assists by Bennett Goehner and Mason Gumke.
Weston Nelson scored 51 seconds into the third period for a 4-1 lead for Devils Lake. Burkett scored for Jamestown at 5:38, set up by Bezler and Ethan Oettle.
Devils Lake outshot Jamestown 30-25. Neither team scored on the power play, with Devils Lake going 0-for-4 and Jamestown missing on their three chances. Blue Jays goalie Leif Hanson made 25 saves.
Jamestown will play their next four games on the road, starting with Minot United on Thursday.
