VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As North Dakotans step into a new year, NDSU Extension is offering a powerful opportunity to take charge of personal health and prevent type 2 diabetes before it starts. A new online Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) cohort will begin January 15, 2026, providing education, tools, and ongoing support to help adults build healthier habits throughout the year.

Prediabetes affects 1 in 4 adults in North Dakota, yet only 10% are aware they have it, according to the program flyer. Risk factors include being over age 45, high blood pressure, family history of diabetes, being overweight, a sedentary lifestyle, and a history of gestational diabetes. This evidence-based program focuses on simple, sustainable lifestyle changes that improve
energy, lower stress, and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Participants receive encouragement and accountability from trained Lifestyle Coaches and a supportive peer group.
