VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On Saturday, December 6th from 11 am to 4 pm, the Valley City Barnes County Public Library will host the second annual “Libraries are Sweet and Books are My Jam” Market Day Event in the multi-purpose room at the library. The event will feature homemade jams, jellies, sweet treats, and more that will be sold to raise funds for a special project at the library. At 1:30 pm, we will hold a dedication service for the new plaque that honors the organizations and people that gave generously to the “Light Up the Library” fundraiser which funded the restoration of the dome and the installation of a new roof for the library. After the dedication, you can check out the restored 1903 dome while listening to mini concerts by Joe DeMasi and the Valley City Community Band Brass Ensemble.
The VCBC Library Foundation is sponsoring this event and has chosen the library’s Book Barn as the purpose of this fundraiser. The Book Barn is another one of our historic buildings. Its original purpose was for the Library Director to park or store his carriage. With our mode of transportation much different than 120 years ago, the Book Barn has been used mostly for storage. Unfortunately, it has fallen into disrepair. We would like to make the Book Barn a visually appealing building as well as functional for the library. The “Brighten the Book Barn” project will help replace the roof, fix the siding, install a new secure entrance, and add a new coat of paint.
Please join us on Saturday, December 6th for the “Libraries are Sweet and Books are My Jam” Market Day Event! You can shop for some unique and tasty Christmas gifts, while the kids do a fun Christmas craft. You might even want to take part in a sweet scavenger hunt. Everyone is welcome to sign up for a basket full of goodies to be given to one lucky winner.
This fundraiser is only possible because of the wonderful support of the library’s patrons and the Valley City / Barnes County community. You can bring your donated items to the library on Friday, December 5th during open hours or between 9:30 and 11 am on Saturday morning.
