MINOT – Not every shot dropped in Thursday for Minot State’s basketball teams.  Sometimes, it just seemed that way.

Both Beaver squads shot well over 50 percent in an NSIC basketball sweep of the Jamestown Jimmies at the Minot State Dome.  MSU’s men held off Jamestown 85-77.  The Minot State women were victors over the Jimmies 97-88.

A 22-0 run over nearly five and a half minutes in the first half helped Minot State (4-4, 1-1 NSIC) to a 44-18 lead. Incredibly, Jamestown (2-6, 0-2) came within 70-68 on an Owen Hektner three-pointer with 6:11 remaining in the second half to cap a 34-16 run for UJ.

But on the next possession for Minot State, Deuce Benjamin hit his fourth three-pointer of the game. Kiku Parker Jr. shortly after that hit a jumper and MSU was up 77-70. Twice after that, the Jimmies were within three, but came no closer again.

Benjamin, who began his collegiate career at Division I New Mexico State, scored 28 points. Parker had 13 as MSU shot 59 percent from the floor.

Anthony Walters led four Jamestown players in double figures with 23 points and six rebounds. Hektner hit five three-pointers for his 15 points.
