GRAND FORKS – For a first night, it was a very good night.

Jamestown Blue Jays Basketball swept their season opening games Friday, with the girls blasting Grand Forks Central 75-24 and the Blue Jay boys rallying to defeat the Knights 70-66 in the Jamestown basketball head coaching debut for Tim Ranum.

Girls: Jamestown 75, Grand Forks Central 24
A 20-0 run in the first half helped Jamestown to a 46-15 halftime lead and the Blue Jays’ largest victory margin since a 92-41 win at Williston on February 17, 2023.

Mea Ulland hit six three-pointers and led four Jamestown players in double figures with 20 points. Milan Martin scored 13, Macey Neumiller had 11 and Haley Attleson dropped in 10.

Taylor Olson scored 12 for Central.

The Blue Jays girls will next play Tuesday at Fergus Falls (MN).

Boys: Jamestown 70, Grand Forks Central 66
After trailing by 10 twice, Jamestown stormed back in the second half in Ranum’s debut.

Edison Walters had 21 points, including 16 in the second half, and seven rebounds. Eric Van Berkom scored 17 with three three-pointers and seven rebounds. Gradin Thorlakson and Liam Frey each tallied nine, with Thorlakson pulling down 11 rebounds and Frey having nine.

With the help of 14 offensive rebounds, Jamestown outrebounded Central 49-28. The Blue Jays shot 52 percent from the floor in the second half and 42 percent overall for the game.

Brooklan Bruce scored 27 for Central, with Carter Larson adding 20.

Jamestown will host Fargo South at Jerry Meyer Arena on Friday, December 12.
