
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Bethany Wielgosh scored twice with an assist and was one of eight different goal scorers Friday for Jamestown Jimmies ACHA Division 1 Women’s Hockey in a 9-3 drubbing of Minnesota at Ridder Arena.
UJ (5-9-0-2) tallied a 4-0 lead in the first period on their way to their second straight victory. Reese Amick scored her first collegiate goal, set up by Kelsey Amick, only 11 seconds into the game. Kelsey Amick dropped in her second of the season from Mackenzie Couling at 5:40. Later in the period, Wielgosh scored her first two of the season only 2:22 apart, from Emma Durand at 14:32 and from Couling at 16:54.
Durand scored her sixth at 5:12 of the second period, set up by Wielgosh. Rebekah Nickisch put in her fourth goal at 12:01 from Maddison Andrew for a 6-0 Jimmie lead.
Laramie Prell scored for Minnesota (2-16-1-0) with seven minutes left in the middle period, but Andrew scored her third shorthanded for Jamestown at 15:36 and UJ led 7-1 after two periods.
Early in the third period, the Gophers scored twice in just over 90 seconds with a power play goal by Jillian Mlodozyniec and a marker by Kate Hill. Samantha Beaulac resumed the Jamestown scoring at 4:20 with her third goal, assisted by Morgan Celley. Jayden Baker closed the ledger with her second goal at 6:02 with an assist from Kiara Perrett.
Jamestown had a whopping 76-16 shot advantage. Jimmies goalie Madelynne Sylvestre made 13 saves.
The Jimmies and Gophers will meet again on Saturday in Minneapolis.
