JAMESTOWN – The first NSIC home doubleheader for Jamestown Jimmies Basketball won’t be soon forgotten.

There was drama in both of Saturday’s games at Harold Newman Arena.  The Jimmie men rallied from a 19-point second half deficit to force overtime, then outlasted UMary in double overtime 99-91.  Jamestown’s women lost all of a 17-point lead before edging the Marauders 60-58, with Daviney Dreckman making a steal before sinking the winning layup with just under one minute remaining.

Men: Jamestown 99, UMary 91 (2 OT)
Jamestown (3-6, 1-2 NSIC) entered the game with the program’s longest losing streak since the end of the 2019-20 season, and it appeared that it could be stretched to six games when UMary (2-6, 1-2) led 69-50 with 10:47 left in the second half on a three-pointer by Tshawn Bois.

But Jamestown then scored the next 11 points on a three-pointer by Ford Okehi, an Okehi layup after a Cole Glasgow steal, a layup and free throw by Thomas Diew and a three-pointer by Anthony Walters. After all that, UJ was within 69-61 with 7:44 still to play.

The Marauders’ Tamarrein Henderson hit a paint jumper with 3:02 to play and UMary led 78-70. Following that, the visitors didn’t score again in regulation. Okehi hit two at the free throw line with 2:41 left, Diew hit a putback with 2:04 to play and Glasgow sank two free throws two seconds later and the Jimmies trailed just 78-76. For UMary, Kelton Coleman missed a layup and Cayden Redfield committed an offensive foul before Walters tied the game for Jamestown with two foul shots with 31 seconds to play. Coleman missed what would have been a winning three-pointer for UMary just before the end of regulation.

Coleman hit three free throws and a layup to help UMary to an 85-81 lead nearly midway through the first overtime, but Walters scored a three-point play with 1:56 left. 29 seconds later, Okehi gave the Jimmies an 86-85 lead with a fast break layup.

Henderson notched a three-pointer for UMary for an 88-86 lead with 1:05 left, but Owen Hektner tied the game for the Jimmies with 33 seconds to go. Henderson missed another potential winning three-pointer for the Marauders and a second extra five minutes were needed.

In the second overtime, Walters hit a jumper, two free throws and another jumper in the first 2:44 and Jamestown led 94-90. Okehi basically sealed the win for the Jimmies with a three-pointer with 1:38 remaining. His two free throws with 15 seconds left were the game’s final points.

Okehi scored a career-high 25 points to lead Jamestown with three three-pointers, seven rebounds and four assists. Walters matched his season-high with 25 points. He hit two threes and also had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.  Hektner scored 14 with seven rebounds.  Diew tallied nine points and nine rebounds.

Coleman had 22 points, four rebounds and six steals for UMary.

Women: Jamestown 60, UMary 58
Jamestown (4-3, 2-1 NSIC) had a 40-23 with 2:22 remaining in the first half after opening the second quarter with a 21-4 run. UJ led by 13, 44-31, at halftime.

But as UMary (8-3, 2-1 NSIC) held the Jimmies to only 10 points in the third quarter, the Marauders made their comeback, even while playing without Bergen Kinnebrew, who begin Saturday as Division II’s fourth-leading scorer at over 23 points per game. Four three-pointers in the third by the Marauders to the Jimmies’ none helped UMary move to within 54-59 after the third quarter.

Finally, UMary grabbed the lead with 7:21 to go on a layup by Chloe Pfau. Hali Savela scored in the paint for Jamestown 52 seconds later. Two free throws by Jessika Lofstrom with 4:38 left gave UJ the lead back at 58-56.

Nearly three minutes elapsed before another bucket, a tying paint jumper by Pfau for the Marauders with 1:47 left.

After a Jamestown miss, UMary had the ball again with a minute to play. That’s when Dreckman snuck from behind Emily Jaenke, swiped the ball away and hit the layup to put the Jimmies ahead 60-58.

UMary then had no less than four chances to tie or lead. A layup try by Anna Lenzen with 35 seconds left was blocked by Jamestown’s Allie Berns. After Lenzen stole the rebound, Jaenke missed a layup. Lenzen then grabbed an offensive rebound, but missed a three-pointer with 19 seconds on the clock. However, Allison Undlin’s offensive rebound gave UMary one more opportunity.

Pfau missed on a drive in the paint with the game’s last shot.

Haidyn Crockett led UJ with a career-high 16 points. Dreckman had 12 with six rebounds. Berns scored 11 and tallied eight rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Lofstrom scored eight and pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds.

Jaenke led all scorers with 17, including five three-pointers, for UMary.
