VALLEY CITY,  ND (NewsDakota.com)  The Viking basketball teams were swept in doubleheaders at Bellevue University Friday and Dakota State Sunday.

FRIDAY (women):  Bellevue 70, VCSU 68

The Vikings rallied to overcome an 11-point deficit midway through the second half to tie the gane 68-68, but Bellevue would hit a shot at the horn to win.

Abby Aslesen led the Vikings with 18 points, with JayCee Richter adding 14.  The Vikings struggled from the field, shooting 1-23 from beyond.

FRIDAY (men) Bellevue 90, VCSU 74

The Vikings defense struggled, allowing 54% shooting from the undefeated Bruins, who ran their record to 9-0 with the win.

The Vikings won the second half, but trailled 44-27 at the break.

J. R. Cison led the Vikings with 17.  Taylor Bryant-Frey had 15 and New Chehade added 10.

SATURDAY (women) Dakota State 70, VCSU 59

The fourth-ramkes Trojans ended the game on a 13-4 run to stretch out another battle in a series of games that have been competitive for two straight years.

Ellie Braaten hit a three-point shot to cut Dakota State’s lead to 57-55, and the Vikings had chances ro tie to lead, but could not convert before Dakota State used their final run to seal the game.

Braaten scored 18 to lead the Vikings, with Cassidy Schute adding 10

SATURDAY (men) Dakota State 77, VCSU 62

After leading early, the Vikings surrendered a 16-1 first half rin and an 18-8 run in the second, to eventually trail 65-35.  They responded with a 20-1 run of their own, but we’re stopped from closing the gap completely.

Logan Deal scored a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.   Kaleb Larson and Chehade each had 12.

The Viking women are now 2-3 in Frontier Conference play, the men are 0-4.  The Vikings head to Montana Western and Montana Tech this coming weekend.
