JAMESTOWN – The fifth meeting this season between Jamestown Jimmies ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey and Minot State was one of the best, especially for the home team.

Carson Brown and Brad Fortin scored in the shootout Wednesday as the sixth-ranked Jimmies nudged past the second-ranked Beavers 4-3 at Wilson Arena.

Minot State (17-1-1-0) came from a 3-1 deficit to force extra play.  A power play goal by Joey Moffatt at 8:07 of the second period brought MSU to within 3-2, then another power play goal by Jay Buchholz at 9:51 of the third period tied the game.

Each team had four shots in the five-minute overtime.  Jamestown (13-10-1-0) struck first with Brown in the shootout, beating Minot State goalie Will Dyke.  UJ goalie Brandon Weare then stopped the Beavers’ Sheldin Howard.  Fortin, who had scored twice in regulation, then tallied for a 2-0 shootout advantage for the Jimmies.  Buchholz was denied by Weare to give Jamestown the victory.

The Jimmies led 2-0 in the first seven minutes of the game.  Jay Bourassa scored his second from Jordan Baranesky and Cole Christensson at 1:42 of the first period, then Fortin tallied his 10th from Kaelan Shelton at 6:06.

Eric Krywy brought Minot State to a 2-1 deficit with 5:18 left in the first period.

Fortin scored his second of the game at 4:57 of the middle period, set up by Marcus Fritel.

Weare was superb in net, making 46 saves.  Minot State outshot Jamestown 49-36.

In their final game before the holidays, the Jimmies will host 10th-ranked UMary at Wilson Arena on Thursday evening.
